Many people don't think about nighttime being a good time to do photography since there's a lack of light. However, armed with knowledge about your camera's settings and the properties of light, nighttime photography can be a lot of fun.
In this meetup, you'll learn about the best camera settings for nighttime photography. We'll also explore the kinds of light available to us and how to use that light to make some awesome photos. As always, there are exercises that will help you put your new knowledge to work.
Flash Photography Class
Sunday 11 June

As a photographer mastering flash photography will hugely improve your photography and understanding of lighting. We will cover how to properly use your external Camera Flash/Speedlite. Learn the settings and modes of the flash and camera. Like the TTL Metering mode: which is a common mode on your camera and Speedlite. Which helps your camera and Speedlite communicate with each other. You will also learn the difference between fill light and key light. We will be working with both available lighting and flash photography. While walking through troubleshooting, making adjustments, and successfully capturing portraits & landscapes.

Composition is one of the most critical element in photography. Composition is how a photographer arranges the visual elements within their image, frame. I promise you that if you search for information on composition you will find plenty You will find formal rules, opinion, some of which you can trace back to historical art movements and painters.
Even in the digital world, composition remains the key to creating strong images. Composition is what guides our eye through an image and gives importance to the subject. It creates the story for the viewer and how we as photographers convey that message.
This meetup will explore composition using our frame and tools available to us as the photographer.
Headshot Photography Class

A headshot is a tightly framed face shot, typically from the shoulders up. The goal of your headshot is to clearly & creatively showcase your client's professionalism, personality, and brand. As a class, we will focus on creating headshots from the chest up with good lighting on your model's face.
Black and White plus Sepia

North Carolina Museum of Art, West Building - 10am - 2 Hours
We will explore what makes a striking black and white image, with the use of strong lighting, simple subject choices, and strong composition. We will also go into turning your images into sepia and colour wash tones.
Advanced Portrait Photography Class
Sunday 25 June
Nash Square Park - 4pm - 3 Hours
This class is your time to take what you have learned about portraiture to the next level. We as a class will photograph a model with the goal of recreating a specific look similar to a few tear sheets from magazines. We will focus on proper lighting, poses, camera settings, and creative direction. Bring your lighting equipment to use this includes reflectors, on-camera flash, and strobe lighting. We will be working with both available lighting and flash photography. While walking through troubleshooting, make adjustments and capturing our model's portraits successfully.

Macro photography is a unique form of photography that involves photographing small objects to make them look life-sized or more significant in the photo. The usual subjects include flowers and small insects, which we don't normally get to see up close with the naked eye.
The class will start when the insects are more active. So be ready to explore and capture breathe-taking macro images.

Portraiture With Natural Light

This class is your time to learn and gain a proper understanding of Composition and the importance of light to help boost your photography skills.
We, as a class, will be photographing a model without any on-camera flash or strobe photography. Just the available light, we will walk through, troubleshoot, make adjustments and capture a portrait successfully.
We will also learn how to use light modifiers like a reflector to help capture appropriately exposed shots in not-so-great lighting
Street Photography

People, cafes, vendors, street merchants, buskers, historic buildings, art installations and much more. The power of observation underpins the art of great street photography. Learning to "see" interesting detail is a practised skill and we introduce you to easy methods that will open your photographer's eye and expose you to a world that is alive with detail. The most rewarding part of the class is learning how to approach interesting people and have them willingly pose for you.
We will also go over settings, focusing techniques and lens choices common to street photography to help us capture those random chance encounters.
Portrait Photography Class
