As a photographer, mastering flash photography will hugely improve your photography and understanding of lighting.
In this class, we will cover how to properly use your external Camera Flash/Speedlite and learn the settings and modes, including the widely used TTL Metering mode, which is a common mode in your camera that fosters seamless communication between your camera and Speedlite.
Lastly, we will also learn the difference between fill light and key light. Exploring the interplay between available lighting and flash photography.
We'll explore these concepts as we troubleshoot, make adjustments, and skillfully capture portraits and landscapes.

This class is for anyone looking to switch their camera mode from Auto to Manual and learn how to shoot using the Manual Mode. The goal is to help everyone become more confident when using their cameras. We will touch on the exposure triangle Shutter Speed, Aperture, and ISO.
Action Sports Photography

We will also look at how to do a portrait of a sports person, not as a standard portrait, but the use of props and angles of their chosen sport. This will be high action photography at its best.
50mm Lens Photography Class

The 50mm lens is one of the flexible and useful lenses in any photographer's gear bag. It is neither a wide-angle or telephoto lens, but allows the camera to see on the same scale as your eye. As such, it can be used for a variety of styles, from landscape and street photography to portrait and product photography.
In this class, we'll review the basic camera settings. We'll then cover some of the advantages of shooting with a prime lens, and some basic techniques to using the 50mm lens. As always, there will be ample opportunities for you to put your new knowledge into practice.

We will look at the contrast and using textures. How does the camera see the image and how do we create Black and White images in a camera or in post-production. We will look for some good examples and set some exercises.

At this meetup, we will practise the basics of shooting in a dark environment as we capture candid images in an urban setting.

- Capturing RAW images.

This class is your time to take what you have learned about portraiture to the next level. We as a class will photograph a model with the goal of recreating a specific look similar to a few tear sheets from magazines. We will focus on proper lighting, poses, camera settings, and creative direction. Bring your lighting equipment to use this includes reflectors, on-camera flash, and strobe lighting. We will be working with both available lighting and flash photography. While walking through troubleshooting, make adjustments and capturing our model's portraits successfully.

Speed Landscape Drawing and Painting

The focus of this two-hour structured session is "speed" and "form", i.e. capturing the essence of a subject. You will be guided to complete some "warm-up" colour and drawing exercises and prepared for doing ink and watercolour-based painting in the session. You will learn how to quickly sketch and capture multiple subjects in the garden with ink and wash technique. You will be advised to keep things rather loose and time your drawing/painting.
You will have a chance to meet and greet like-minded people, choose your own subjects in the garden and be guided to complete the exercises, and artwork and have some takeaway homework with the learned technique. All levels and experiences are welcome.
